This is Melbourne Skies Puzzled - it was the largest of the pieces at Madame Lillies. Almost a billboard that fits in at an angle to the ‘proscenium’ square delineated into the wall. White blocks at the bottom left hand of the piece become curved cloud like shapes floating out of the top right hand edge.

The installation of Interrupted Spaces took longer than I thought - but I got it done in three days. This is Blackpool Tipped.

The last few months I have been working on new work to go into an exhibition title Interrupted Spaces at a gallery called Madame Lillies. Madame Lillies is an old corset shop in Stoke Newington and is run by the artists that live in the building. The pieces I am making for this show sit somewhere between sculpture, installation and semi relief pieces. Three pieces take large scale photographs as starting points for an idea, from which I build away from the flat photographic surface with furniture and building materials. Two of the photographs are of Melbourne skies that are cut across with tram and electric cables, the third is of Blackpool prom tipped on its side. The photographs suggest to me a mood or a poetic place that can be built upon. The idea is to create a place not seen before yet which is firmly connected to a real experience, even if that experience is from a more inner world experience or dreamlike place.

Photographs I took whilst living in Melbourne have been incorporated in to some pieces of work, such as Melbourne Storm.

The end of year show at the Florence Trust is very soon, July 4th. It has come around very quickly. Here are a few of the pieces I have been working on this year.
A View from the Tower, used a photograph looking out through the lift on the Blackpool Tower as a starting point. Pinned to a hoarding-like structure, the photograph was painted and pinned onto.
