Nervous Energy

These paintings describe a kind of abstract surrealism: partly demonstrating a minimalist heritage (though more busy and agitated) whilst at times also using paint in an expressionistic style. They represent an enquiry into the nature of process: the before, during and after. Something enters into a ‘processing arena’ and is expelled at the other end, this could allude to the ‘alchemy’ of oil refineries or the bodily: eating, digesting and expelling. It could also be about the process of painting itself as a practice in the art of transformation.
